From the very beginning of the development emphasis was put to have expert know-how in all fields in an interdiciplinary team. For instance industrial designers took a very active role right from start. SpaceCat has been designed by Michael Krohn at Formpol in Zurich, Switzerland.

Competence

Axiglaze has competence in a wide range of areas including Inductive Spring 3D-technology, input device ergonomics, human computer interaction and CG software development.

The technology that eventually became the Inductive Spring 3D-technology was developed by a cross-disciplinary team at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. The team was lead by Martin Sundin, PhD, who is founder of Axiglaze.

A first prototype (1 MB) was built and an initial patent claim was filed in 1996. Three years later, in 1999, a prototype called SpaceCat (6MB) was awarded the prestigious innovation cup award "Technologiestandort Schweiz". In August 2001, the base patent was approved.

In May 2001, the Swedish Venture capital firm Centrecourt AB invested in Axiglaze AB. The target was to create a 6DOF tool for desktop motion capture called the quCat (9MB). A 0-serie of devices has been produced. Due to lack of capital in autumn 2001 this strategy had to be put on ice. Currently Axiglaze primarily works on a licencing strategy.
